PIKE AND SAN ISABEL NATIONAL FORESTS SCHEDULE SECOND FORESTS PLAN REVISION COLLABORATION WORKSHOP IN COLORADO SPRINGS

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Pike and San Isabel National Forests are pleased to announce that a second Forests Plan Revision collaboration workshop has been scheduled in Colorado Springs. The workshop will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Grand Ballroom of the Doubletree Inn – World Arena at 1775 E. Cheyenne Blvd.

The decision was immediately made to hold a second workshop in Colorado Springs when the facility for the first workshop on January 31st had reached its capacity. It was regretful that not everyone could participate. In a recent editorial written by Bob Leaverton, Forest Supervisor for the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, Leaverton said, “It was a difficult but clear decision because of our concern for the public’s safety.” Leaverton apologized for the frustration and inconvenience to those who weren’t able to participate and promised another meeting would be scheduled in Colorado Springs so everyone would have an opportunity to express their thoughts and be heard.

There will be three other meetings prior to the one in Colorado Springs that the public can attend. They are:

  • Westcliffe, CO: 2/14/07; 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Rancher’s Roost Café & Bowling Alley, 25 Main St.
  • Pueblo, CO: 2/15/07; 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; El Pueblo Museum, 301 N. Union Ave.
  • Fairplay, CO: 2/22/07; 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Alma Town Hall, 59 E. Buckskin Rd. (Alma)

The public needs to be aware that there were some changes made since the original announcement for the public workshops and flyer went out. Notable changes include the address to the El Pueblo Museum and the date and location of the Fairplay workshop, which was rescheduled to Feb. 22 and moved from the Fairplay Fairbarn to the Alma Town Hall.

The workshop agenda is posted on the Pike and San Isabel National Forests Plan Revision website at www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/projects/forest_revision/for_rev.shtml. For additional information or special accommodations call 719-553-1400 or visit the website.
