Park County
Road construction to limit access to popular Jefferson Lake

Fairplay, Colo. (Aug. 26, 2005) - Following Labor Day and through most of September, access to the popular Jefferson Lake in Park County will be a bit of a challenge for fishermen, hikers and other recreation enthusiasts. Jefferson Lake Road (Forest Road 37) leading to the lake will be closed intermittently beginning Sept. 7 through the end of September due to road work. The U.S. Forest Service-contracted work will include culvert and drainage work, road widening and paving.

Brief Access Opportunities

Monday - Friday: Beginning September 7, 2005, the final 1 ½ miles of the access road to Jefferson Lake, starting just north of Jefferson Lake Campground, will be closed Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Limited daytime access. Construction crews will provide brief access opportunities to and from the lake throughout each day's construction period. The road will be temporarily opened Monday through Friday every two hours for 10 minute periods at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Overnight. The road will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the week.
  • Weekends. The road will be open for full access on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the construction period.
