INCLINE FIRE

Manitou Springs, Colo., September 30, 2007 - Firefighters are working to control the Incline Fire located one mile west of the city of Manitou Springs, Colorado. This human-caused fire was first reported Friday afternoon and was pushed by strong winds to approximately 30 acres by Friday evening.

The fire area is in steep, rough terrain next to the Manitou Incline burning through Ponderosa pine and Douglas Fir forests and Gamble Oak. Most of the land involved was city of Manitou Springs. About 30 percent was on National Forest lands.

Approximately 45 firefighters are assigned to the incident today, two 20-person hand crews and one fire engine. An estimated 80 percent of the fire perimeter has been secured with full containment expected by end of today's shift.

The Barr Trail is currently closed to public travel but is scheduled to open Monday, October 1st. The public was asked to stay clear of the area for firefighter and personal safety.
