PUEBLO, Colo, November 2, 2007… The Pike and San Isabel National Forests will be soliciting bids for the operation of their campgrounds and other recreation areas in the Spring of 2008.
Since 1993 the operation of the recreation facilities have been under permit to 3rd parties or concessionaire(s). The existing permits expire at the end of 2008. This will be a multi-year, multi million dollar opportunity. These national forests have a variety of facilities and opportunities, some of which are open year-round. Facilities vary widely from those in Lake County at Turquoise Lake that have a full range of amenities such as flush toilets, water systems, boat ramps, RV-dump stations, picnic areas, and fishing docks.
The perspectus will offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to provide firewood sales, boat rentals, bicycle rentals or camping equipment to make camping a more fulfilling experience for visitors as well as an economically viable operation.
Recent visitor use studies indicate the Pike and San Isabel National Forests receive over four million recreation visits annually. Our proximity to the Front Range of Colorado makes this national forest a favorite for visitors from Denver, eastern Colorado and even Texas.
We are currently developing a list of interested parties or applicants. If a company would like to be considered and added to the mailing list of applicants, please send a letter of interest to Neal Weierbach, USDA Forest Service, 2840 Kachina Dr. Pueblo, CO, 81008.
