COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., January 25, 2008… The U.S. Forest Service - Pike National Forest, Pikes Peak District will temporarily suspend public fuelwood permits for about two months. District Fire Management Officer, Eric Zanotto made the decision to suspend because of the snow and ice that has accumulated.
This decision was made to prevent damage to the natural resources and to the vehicles used by firewood gatherers. Forest managers will monitor the conditions closely and permits will go back on sale at the earliest possible date.
All permits that were previously sold prior to January 23 will be honored for the 60 day period that they are valid. Permits have the expiration date on the front of the permit.
