Fairplay, CO: Duke Davis and Buckshot will be presenting their highly acclaimed program, “Westward Ho!”, at the South Park High School in Fairplay on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00 PM.
“Westward Ho!” is a theatrical musical performance that chronicles the history of Western Music. The 90 minute program takes the audience from the end of the Civil War when the great cattle drives started in Texas up to today’s modern times in a 27 song presentation. Duke Davis sings the old songs of the trail and narrates how they came about and their origin. Accompanied by his award winning band, “Buckshot”, they take you through the turn of the century, into the ‘Tin Pan Alley’ era, on to the ‘Silver Screen Cowboy’ era of the 1930’s and 1940’s, up to the popular TV Western themes of the 1960’s, and end up in today’s contemporary Western Music.
All done in a setting around the campfire in a cowboy’s camp, the program takes the audience on a virtual reality tour of the evolution of Western Music intermingled with cowboy poetry and anecdotes of the cowboy life. The history of the cowboy is revealed through his music, its origins and different ethnic backgrounds, its subtle nuances and influences.
“Westward Ho!” is generating quite a stir in the Western Arts circuit having just returned from their annual Texas tour where they performed the program in Kerrville, San Antonio, Schertz, and Luckenbach to wildly, enthusiastic crowds and received standing ovations everywhere. The program premiered in June in Woodland Park, Colorado with two shows at the Dickson Performing Arts Center and they did the show at the famed Tabor Opera House in Leadville, Colorado in August for Boom Days, as well.
Duke Davis and Buckshot are celebrating their 28th year. Having received numerous awards and nominations from the Academy of Western Artists, the Western Music Association, the Country Music Associations of America, the California Music Association and the Music Industry Coalition, Duke is an award winning singer, songwriter, poet, producer and musician, and is a true ‘renaissance man’.
