COMMISSIONER DOC MCKAY PASSES AWAY
May 10, 2008: MEMORIAL SERVICE PLANNED FOR DOC MCKAY

The public is invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service for the late Commissioner Doc McKay to be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The Jefferson-Como Fire District announced that the service will start at 11:00 a.m. at South Park High School in Fairplay. A lunch provided by the Fire District will follow the services.

Louis Doc McKay Park County, Colorado - District 3 Commissioner Louis Doc McKay passed away in Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital on the evening of Thursday, May 8, 2008, according to a Park County government press information.

Doc, as he was known to all of Park County, was elected in 2006 to serve the district of the county encompassing the towns of Fairplay and Alma, and communities of Hartsel, Jefferson, Como, Lake George and Guffey. McKay and his wife, Liz, moved to the Indian Mountain area in 1994. He worked as Chief Building Official for Park County prior to winning the election for Commissioner.

According to the Park County news information, McKay had been with the Englewood Colorado Fire Department from 1969 until 1998, and brought his considerable experience and knowledge to serve his community and all of Park County. After moving to Park County, Doc became active in his local community, serving as the President of the Indian Mountain Metropolitan Parks and Recreation District Board, and served for many years as the President of the Jefferson-Como Fire Protection District. He began his employment at the Park County Building Department in March of 1999.
