Louis Doc McKay, Park County Commissioner

Louis Doc McKay served enthusiastically as Park County's District 3 Commissioner from January of 2007 until his death in May of 2008. There may never have been a man happier to be a commissioner. He thought it was a privilege to deal one-on-one with the citizens of his beloved county, not an imposition or annoyance.

In memory of Doc, we present a collection of photos from his life and his memorial.

Doc McKay was a drummer. Most people didn't know that. Liz McKay asked the local band Revolver to memorialize Doc's love of all kinds of music. They proved up to the task and then some. From a beautiful a cappella chorus of Steve Young's Seven Bridges Road to a rousing Joplin Piece of my Heart, the band ran the rock 'n roll repertoire for the memory of Doc and the smile of Liz. Drummer Dave Wissel also served as moderator for the services.

Crowd at McKay memorial

The crowd in attendance smiled and tapped toes with the band, and cried with the memories of family and friends whose lives were touched by Doc. It was a celebration and memorial uniquely suited to the versatile man.

Thank you for visiting and for carrying on his memory.

Doc leaves behind his beloved wife, Liz, his children, Elizabeth Alley, Tim McKay and Stephanie Marino, his stepson Jeff Wendeborn, and his grandchildren, Crystal Alley, Ashley Alley, Whitney McKay, Jess McKay, Sarah Dean and Will Wendeborn. Doc also leaves behind several younger men that he mentored along the way who will miss him as a father including Steve Bargas and Greg Kimsey speaking here today.

Thank you to all of the Englewood and Littleton Firemen who donated blood and platelets to replace the enormous number of blood products Doc was given. There is no greater gift.

I would personally like to thank a number of people who faithfully supported me during Doc's lengthy hospital stay. My son, Jeff Wendeborn, Kathy Fitting, Doc's daughters Elizabeth and Stephanie, my mother Elizabeth Robertson, her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Judy Kincaid, Sandy Berryman, Ann Bridgewater, Kim and Steve Bargas, Chuck and Maggie Curtis, Virginia Chapman, Judy Wells, Ursula Getrost, Terri Huebner, Ann and Bill Schneidewind, Denny and JoAn Nall, Bonnie Wasson, Nancy and Bob Einarsen, and Greg Kimsey.

Sincerely, Liz McKay
