The current campaign finance reporting period for local Park County candidates covers contributions and expenditures occurring through July 17, 2008. The reports were due by July 22. All but one candidate filed early or on time. Commissioner John Tighe filed his financial report two days late on July 24, 2008.
Any items in excess of $19.99 from or to any one person or entity must be listed by name. Items below $20.00 are not required to be itemized on the reports.
In District 1, John Tighe reports a cash contribution from James and Patricia Sapp (Campaign Treasurer for Richard Hodges) in the amount of $100, and a non-cash contribution from Dan and Ruth Curran valued at $100. Tighe reports a loan to his own campaign of $91 and one donation received under the reporting limit at $19.99. He reports that most of his expenditures went for "Campaign Materials" with a small additional amount spent for sign materials. Tighe's campaign treasurer filing the report is the candidate's wife, Lisa Tighe. Finance report was filed two days late on July 24, 2008.
District 1 Candidate Doug Tamminga reports out-of-pocket spending of $2,360 with the bulk of the expenditures going to new signs and sign materials. He also spent $215 for buttons and $175 for a website. Tamminga's reporting agent is his wife, Cindy Tamminga. Report was filed timely on July 22, 2008.
District 1 unaffiliated candidate Lora Abcarian reports itemized contributions of just over $1,000, with $400 coming from Don Fensler, $250 coming from the candidate's pocket, $100 from M. Solberg, $150 from Roger Sawyer, $50 from Carrie Marsh, and $25 each from Janet Mizelle, Jean Wagner, and Jerry Humphrey. Expenditures totaling over $1,000 include advertising for petition-signing events, $259 for signs, $111 for the county clerk's registered voter lists, $150 for website registration and hosting, and $120 for campaign buttons. Abcarian's reporting agent is Carolyn Arnold-Marsh. The report was filed early on July 21, 2008.
For District 2, no candidate has a primary election opponent. Republican Richard Hodges reports itemized contributions from Doran Moore - $50, James Sapp - $150, Mari Eisenman (wife of Development Services Director Tom Eisenman) - $100, and Robert Banks - $100. All of Hodges' expenditures are listed as reimbursements to James Sapp and himself for sign materials, cards and shirts totaling just over $930 through July 17. The agent filing his report is Patricia Sapp. Report was filed early on July 18, 2008.
Democratic District 2 candidate Lynda James reports itemized contributions of $1,670 including $1,000 from Leon Krain of Jefferson, $100 each from Barbara Woelk of Fairplay and the Park County Democratic Party, $50 each from Donald Fensler and Doran & Susan Moore, and $350 from Nancy Stimson of Fairplay. James has spent just over $640 with most going to buttons, signs and voter lists. Her reporting agent is Diane Knight. The report was filed early on July 19, 2008.
In District 3, Lillian Wissel reports monetary contributions of $3,081 including $1,000 cash donation from the candidate, plus another $2,846 out of pocket offsets. Other cash contributions come from Leon Krain ($1,000), Jack Allen ($500), Michael Peterson ($430), Dennis Keegan ($100) and S. A. Spann ($50). Total expenditures are $4,359 with most going to banners, signs and sign materials, an additional $1,200 for promotional whistles, over $400 on flyers and advertising, $181 on t-shirts, and $87 to the county clerk for voter information. Wissel's campaign treasurer reporting is Michael Peterson. The report was filed timely on July 22, 2008.
District 3 challenger Mark Dowaliby reports itemized contributions of $2,010 including $385 from the County Undersheriff's wife, Bobbi Gore, $100 from County Attorney Lee Phillips, $200 from County Public Health Director and attorney's wife Robin Phillips, $150 from Development Services Planner John Deagan, $200 from Bill Van Gundy, $155 from Nancy Comer, and $100 each from Bob Agosti, Dave Slubowski, Don Wright, Kent Kalb, James Sapp, Frank's Garage, Jean Wagner, and John Carr. The candidate reports that he spent a total of $1,751 including $1,100 on signs, $241 on t-shirts, about $200 on advertising, printing and other promotional items, and $74 paid to the clerk for voter information. Mr. Dowaliby is signing as his own treasurer and reporting agent. The report was filed on time on July 22, 2008.
The next campaign finance reports are due on August 8, 2008 - the Friday before the Primary Election. The period covered by the new reports will be July 18 - August 3, 2008.
