On January 5, 2010, at approximately 7:02 p.m., Colorado State Troopers responded to a double-fatal crash on Colorado 285 milepost 229 near Pine Junction in Jefferson County, according to a press release on Wednesday by the Colorado State Patrol.
The CSP press notice says that a gray 1995 Honda Civic was northbound on CO 285 milepost 229. A silver 2004 Buick Ranier was southbound on CO 285 milepost 229. A green 1998 Dodge Ram was also southbound on CO 285 following the Buick. The Honda Civic lost control and skidded broadside across the centerline and the front of the Honda impacted the left side of the Buick. The Honda continued to travel after the impact and the front of the Dodge Ram impacted the right side of the Honda. The second impact caused the Dodge to roll 3/4 over onto its side. All three vehicles came to rest in the roadway.
The restrained male driver of the Honda has been identified as Kenneth P. Barnett, 16 of Evergreen, CO. Barnett sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A restrained female passenger in the Honda has been identified as Mara C. Parslow, 16 of Morrison, CO. Parslow sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An unrestrained passenger in the Honda has been identified as Austin L. Barnett, 18 of Evergreen, CO. Barnett sustained moderate injuries and was transported to St. Anthony Central Hospital.
The restrained female driver of the Buick has been identified as Kylee J. Taylor, 20 of Bailey, CO. Taylor was not injured.
The restrained male driver of the Dodge has been identified as Thomas R. Dimler, 42 of Pine, CO. Dimler sustained minor injuries and was transported to Swedish.
The crash and subsequent investigation led to a closure of Colorado 285 for approximately 5 hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
Alcohol, drugs and speed are unknown at this time as contributing factors.
