Hartsel resident and District 3 Commissioner candidate Monica Jones provided a new copy of the December 2009 charges on the Park County government credit card. Jones said that she requested the second bill under open records from Park County Finance Director Kathy Boyce. The total of charges on the newly-released December bill is $234,458.61.
On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Jones attended a commissioner work session that included an elected officials and directors meeting. During that meeting, commissioners announced that they had been forced to cancel the county's credit card because it was released to the public with the account numbers visible, according to Jones. The county failed to redact or cover the card numbers prior to releasing the bills as public record. The commissioners said they were opening another account to replace the cards, Jones said after the meeting. The commissioners were also quoted as saying that everyone needed to be careful how they used the credit cards during an election year.
The county released two such documents on two separate occasions as public record before realizing that they had exposed the card numbers to the public. The December credit card bill published today includes the old account numbers which are no longer active.
