John Wesley Anderson, former El Paso County Sheriff, formally announced today that he is seeking the Republican Party nomination as a candidate for Colorado's Fifth Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district is comprised of El Paso, Fremont, Teller, Chaffee, Lake, and Park Counties.
Anderson served as the El Paso County Sheriff for two terms, from January 1995 until January 2003. Prior to his election as Sheriff, he served as a member of the Colorado Springs Police Department, retiring after twenty-two years of service. He presently is employed by Lockheed-Martin as a Homeland Defense and Homeland Security Subject Matter Expert.
Anderson may be contacted through his campaign committee website at www.johnandersonforcongress.com.
Colorado's Fifth Congressional District seat is currently held by Republican Joel Hefley from Colorado Springs. Hefley has been considering retirement rather than seeking an 11th term in congress.
