It's a sure sign that an election year is upon us when the Park County Clerk's office is busy with a flurry of candidates filing to announce their intent to run for local elected offices. This past week has seen such activity.
According to Wanda Stevenson, Election Supervisor for Park County, almost all incumbent elected officials and one challenger have filed their intent to seek office in 2006.
Updated Week of January 9, 2006:
On Monday, January 9, Republican Susan Pullman filed an intent to seek nomination for the office of Park County Treasurer and Public Trustee. Pullman's announcement creates a three-way contest, so far, for Republican nomination to that office.
Also this week, Republican Sharon Morris filed intent to run for re-election as Park County Coroner.

In races where challengers of the same major political party declare candidacy, the party will select a general election candidate through the local caucus and county assembly process that starts in early spring. If no clear winner emerges from the county assembly, a primary election will be held to select a general election candidate to run against the opposing party or parties. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the grassroots level election process to decide who their party's candidate will be in the fall.
There is still plenty of time for other challengers and incumbents to announce and file. Questions regarding election filings should be directed to Wanda Stevenson at 719-836-4223.
