Neither rain nor Stage 2 fire alert would keep the community of Como from its Old Fashioned Fourth. Held on Saturday, July 1st this year, the local celebration included the First Annual Red, White and Blue Parade.
In spite of steady rain, the festivities went forward. Firefighters, families, politicians and local community organizations marched through the streets of Como, blaring sirens from firetrucks and whistles from the old steam engine that brightens the holidays in the little historical town. In the old schoolhouse, the Como Civic Association held a silent auction of donated goods from around the county.
Park County Democrats presented their second quarter charitable contribution to Rocky Mountain Rural Health at the Independence Day celebration. The non-profit organization is raising funds for a new 3,200 square foot health care facility in Fairplay. (Separate Story Here.)
Local vendors enjoyed some brisk business from the visitors who came for the patriotic festivities, and food, gift and craft vendors lined the streets. The long, fun day ended with a chili dinner and lively dance.
