(Press Release from Park County Government)
On Tuesday, January 24th some erroneous information about the Park County Fair Grounds was posted on a local website. As a result, the County has received numerous communications, most of which assume that the information is true.
IT IS NOT. The following contains the correct information.
It is true that the County is in need of new County Offices and has been looking for possible sites for a new government complex. A concept being discussed is a 'campus-type' facility capable of being used by multiple County related functions and expanded over the years according to County needs. The investigation is in the very preliminary stages. Absolutely no decisions have been made. This process will most likely take years to accomplish.
By law a County Building must be located in Fairplay, the county seat. So, initial investigations have centered on County owned property located in Fairplay. The Fair Grounds meet some of the criteria. However, if that site is used, the Fair Grounds and 4-H activities will not only continue; those facilities will most likely be improved or replaced with new ones.
Citizens are encouraged to contact Park County Government at sberryman@parkco.us or call Sandy Berryman, Chief Administrative Officer for the Board of County Commissioners at 719-836-4203 if you have any questions about what is factual. The County regrets any problems caused by the faulty information.
Editorial note:
The "local website" referenced is not the Park County Bulletin.
