Announcement from the Park County Sheriff:

The Park County Sheriff's Department sadly announced that Corporal Craig Gaffner passed away at his residence Sunday evening, May 11, 2008. "Craig had been with our agency for six years and enjoyed working with his K-9 companion 'Scribbles'," said Sheriff Wegener. He was well liked by fellow deputies and enjoyed serving as a deputy sheriff. Craig received three Letters of Commendation and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and the Sheriff's Commendation for his actions at the Platte Canyon High School Shooting on September 27, 2006.

We will all miss Corporal Craig Gaffner and his favorite faded ball cap.

Obituary and Memorial Announcement:

Craig L. Gaffner - passed away on May 11, 2008. He was a veteran of the Navy and a decorated Corporal with the Park County Sheriff’s Office including service with the K9 and SWAT units. Craig knew all of his life that law enforcement was going to be his calling, and he did it well. There was only one thing he was more passionate about in life, his daughter Brooklyn. She mourns the loss but will celebrate his life on

Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Platte Canyon High School at 2:00 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Craig L. Gaffner Memorial Fund, to benefit Brooklyn’s education, through Mutual of Omaha Bank - 26679 Pleasant Park Rd Conifer, CO 80433.

Flowers should be sent to the Park County Sheriff’s Bailey Sub Station. Craig’s friends will deliver these to the celebration from there.

Craig is also survived by his mother Joan, brothers Scott and Andrew, and sisters Janet and Emilie.
