Update December 28: An autopsy performed on Dr. David Boyer showed multiple injuries to the skull and musculoskeletal system determined to be caused by the crash, according to Park County Coroner Sharon Morris. No evidence of illness was discovered. The toxicology results, which were returned on Wednesday, were negative for alcohol or drugs of abuse.

Update December 20: The name of the driver killed in the crash on December 18th has now been released. Park County Coroner Sharon Morris identifies the deceased as David Boyer, MD (Retired). Dr. Boyer, of Berthoud, CO, raised English Sheep Dogs and restored race cars as a hobby.

BAILEY - At approximately 9:45 on Monday morning, an accident was reported on US Highway 285 near the entrance to the Coney Island Hot Dog stand, formerly Granny's Attic, just south of the town of Bailey.

The crash between a southbound pickup truck and a northbound tractor-trailer hauling dry concrete left the 64-year-old pickup truck driver fatally injured. The pickup truck appeared to have veered into the northbound lane and struck the tractor rig head on. The driver of the cement truck was not injured in the crash.

With trucks and debris blocking the road, the highway remained closed for more than five hours as State Patrol investigated the accident and crews cleared the road. Smaller vehicles were detoured through Park County Road 64. Semi trucks and other large vehicles could not use the detour and were unable to continue on their way until the highway was reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The pickup truck driver's dogs were in the bed of the truck inside a camper shell. They were uninjured in the crash and were picked up by Park County Animal Control. The dogs were later retrieved by friends of the deceased man.

The name of the deceased is withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to Park County Coroner Sharon Morris. There have been no relatives located in the immediate area. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
