LOCAL PROSECUTOR GETS NOD FROM GOVERNOR

When the Honorable Stanley J. Mayhew hangs up his robes and retires as Park County Judge, a local prosecutor will take his place on the bench. Governor Owens' office contacted Deputy District Attorney Brian L. Green on Tuesday, August 29, to give him the good news.

Green and his family moved to the Jefferson area in Park County a year and a half ago after Green was hired for his current position with the Park County District Attorney's Office. When Judge Mayhew announced that he would retire, Green asked to be considered for the appointment to sit on the county court bench. Several associates and county officials wrote letters to the Governor supporting his appointment.

The 39-year-old prosecuting attorney will officially don the black robes in January of 2007. Defense attorney Michael A. Iozzo, who practices law in Fairplay, was the other candidate on the short list to fill the vacancy. Iozzo sought Green out to congratulate him shortly after the announcement was made.
