RASKIEWICZ ADDRESSES KEYES FAMILY,
WITHDRAWS FROM SHERIFF'S RACE

Former Alma Town Marshal Robert Raskiewicz filed an affidavit on Monday, August 28, to run as a write-in candidate for the office of Park County Sheriff. Raskiewicz was the fourth candidate to file his intent to run for that office.

Today, Raskiewicz submitted a statement addressing the Keyes family on their loss of Emily, and the tragedy that occurred in the county on Septemeber 27. In that letter, he also comments on the upcoming election for Park County Sheriff. The text of that statement follows.

TO THE KEYES FAMILY, SHERIFF WEGENER
& THE PEOPLE OF PARK COUNTY

First, to the Keyes family: I would like to offer my sincere condolences for your loss. You have suffered a loss that I pray to God I will never have to know; yet, you have held yourselves together and remained strong in your daughter's memory. Instead of being sad or angry, you have asked the community to be strong and pull together. I believe there will be many positive changes throughout this county that will come from this tragedy. If there are to be any "heroes" in this story, they are Emily and the rest of the Keyes family.

To Sheriff Wegener and the citizens of our community: I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to you, the deputies and all of your families. With my law enforcement background, I can understand how difficult it must have been for you to be forced to make the choices you did. I would not have wished to be in your shoes that day and have to make those decisions. This is the greatest tragedy that could have happened to our community and I believe that you made the best decisions anyone could in those circumstances. The chain of events that have spun off from this have been handled with great professionalism. Although we have had our disputes in the past, I have seen a side of you that I never imagined could exist. As previously stated, I see many positive changes coming out of this disaster not only with way the members of our community treat each other, but also with the interaction of the PCSO with the members of this community.

For these reasons, I would like to withdraw from the candidacy for the Sheriff. This devastating event has once again shown, life is too short. I would like to put past differences behind us and put my support behind Sheriff Wegener.

Sincerely,

Rob Raskiewicz
