On February 28, 2006 around 10:30 p.m., a reverse 911 call went out to residents within 3 miles of KZ Ranch, including parts of County Road 43, Deer Creek Valley Ranchos, KZ Ranch, and Harris Park. The call informed residents that the Sheriff's Department was searching for a suicidal juvenile. Unfortunately, the call did not tell residents what they should do in response to the situation. The message sent out did not indicate if the residents needed to take steps to protect themselves, nor did it contain information on how the residents could help.
The Sheriff's Department wishes to apologize for the vagueness of the Reverse 911 message relayed on Tuesday night and the inconvenience it may have caused to households in the area. The Department's policy regarding the Reverse 911 call system is under review in order to avoid unclear instructions when a reverse 911 call is made.
The Sheriff's Department considers the Reverse 911 system very useful in many ways, such as in the event of a fire or to relay important information regarding health issues. The Department hopes that citizens understand the importance of this system and support it in the future.
If residents believe they should have received this or any other Reverse 911 call but did not, they should contact the Park County Sheriff's Department at 719-836-2494.
