REINDEER ASK COMMUNITY FOR HELP

With Christmas Eve drawing near, Santa's Reindeer are asking for the cooperation of Park County residents. "The lights are helpful," said Rudolph, Official Spokesdeer for the Delivery Over Night Division of Elite Reindeer (DONDER). "They're not only beautiful and spread cheer, but they help us see where the communities are so we can navigate from high altitudes."

He made it clear that they could certainly find the houses that were not lit up, but the lights in neighborhoods helped. DONDER also cautions, in its annual Christmas Safety pamphlet, that only safe lights and wiring should be used on trees and around homes to prevent fires. "There is nothing sadder than Christmas in flames," Rudolph added, with his bright red nose dimming forlornly. "Firefighters need a holiday, too."

Rudolph and DONDER encourage everyone to read the advice of one of Park County's fire departments here.

Vixen is quick to add a caution that Christmas lights should not be left burning when the family is away or all asleep. "Though bright Christmas lights make our job a little easier and more cheerful, we are very experienced at finding children everywhere," Vixen assures the Park County Bulletin.

As we were leaving the interview with the Reindeer, a note was secretly passed to us. It reads as follows:

We Reindeer do not want to get in trouble, but would appreciate it if the families of Park County would help us with one other thing. All of those sweet cookies and good wholesome milk are wonderful and the Big Guy really loves them. But... could a few of you put out something a little lighter? Maybe some good healthy low-calorie oatmeal cookies or a nutrition bar and some skim milk would be nice. We have to haul him around all night, you know.
Thank you very much.

P.S. And maybe you could leave us a carrot or a piece of fruit or something. We use an alternate fuel source known as Christmas Uplift Pawing Inversion Drive (CUPID), that requires lots of fiber. I know we can count on you! (We'll be careful where we distribute the "exhaust".)

The group of happy Reindeer trotted off discussing the need to shine bells. All reports indicate that they will be ready in plenty of time for their long journey on Christmas Eve.

Will you?
