Local business owner and photographer Mike Quaintance was stopped by a fire emergency while traveling southbound on US 285 on Thursday, June 16. Inter-Canyon Firefighters were attempting to extinguish a blazing RV parked near Mountain High Chapel while protecting the Chapel from the intense heat.
Quaintance, owner of Bailey Liquors and noted local photographer, has provided photos of the fire along with the following comments:
On Thursday, 16 June, I was headed southbound on US 285. Traffic was stopped at the Mountain High Chapel as the Inter-Canyon Fire Department was in the early stage of responding to a burning RV in the parking lot of the church. The RV was fully involved and the heat was causing the wall and roof of the church to smolder. The first responders turned their hose on the church building before attempting to extinguish the RV.
It might have been critical to containment of the fire that the Inter-Canyon Firehouse was just across the highway and the responders were able get on scene without much delay.
