The Park County Sheriff's Office is continuing the reorganization of the department's command structure that began in late 2005. Sheriff Wegener recently announced promotions and new positions within the department.
With former Jail Captain Monte Gore taking over the position of Undersheriff in December 2005, the decision was made to add the positions of Jail Lieutenant and Patrol Lieutenant to the command structure of the department. Additionally, two officers have been transferred to investigations due to the increase in serious crimes in the county, according to Wegener. The department also received authorization to add new corporal positions for each district.
After a testing and evaluation process was completed, former Sgt. Mark Hancock was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant and Dan Muldoon is now the department's Jail Lieutenant. Detectives Dean Morgan and David Humke joined investigations earlier this month.
On the Fairplay side (District 1), Rod Greeley and Rick Paige were promoted to the rank of Corporal. Greg Flint is now a Corporal in the Bailey district. These changes provide each district with one Sergeant and two Corporals to increase availability of supervision, according to the Sheriff.
District 2 (Bailey side) will be needing a new Sergeant to replace Lt. Hancock following his promotion. No announcement has yet been made regarding that position.
In addition to department changes and promotions, Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener was elected last week to serve as President of County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC). CSOC is a statewide organization providing education and professional assistance to elected County Sheriffs. Sheriff Wegener formerly served as 2nd Vice President of the association.
