Small Acreage Classes offered in April

Colorado State University Cooperative Extension is offering a 5-week series of classes designed for the Park County Small Acreage owner. These classes will be held on Saturdays starting April 2nd at the Bailey Fire Station #1. These classes are partially sponsored through the Federal Renewable Rangeland Extension Act.
Week 1 (April 2) will focus on an overview of managing small acreages, goal setting and creating a management plan. Week 2 (April 9) will deal with soil management and irrigation management with some basics about Colorado Water Law. Week 3 (April 16) looks into water quality, protecting household drinking water, septic system management, and riparian area protection. Week 4 (April 23) focuses on grass growth, pasture renovation, weed identification and management. Week 5 (May 7) deals with animal management including basic care, grazing management and other associated management activities.
Classes will begin at 1:00 p.m. The cost for each class is $10 per person, $15 per couple, or you may register for the entire series at a discounted price of $40 for one, $70 for two people from the same operation. As a bonus, participants who complete the entire series can have a 2-hour consultation at their property. Pre-registration is required by calling 719-836-4289 or 836-4293. Cooperative Extension programs are available to all without discrimination. Scholarships are available to those meeting income qualifiers.
