The Park County Clerk and Recorder's office will hold a demonstration of the county's new voting machines on Wednesday, April 19, 2006. The demonstration will run from 2pm to 4pm in the Commissioners' meeting room at 501 Main St. in Fairplay.
A representative from Hart InterCivic will be on hand to demonstrate the new eSlate voting machines the county will use in future elections. The eSlate Direct Record Electronic (DRE) machines accommodate disabled voters while providing a printed ballot inside a screen for confirmation and vote audits, if needed. New paper ballot counting machines purchased by the County Clerk will also be available for the demonstration.
The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) passed by congress in 2002 requires a DRE machine be made available for handicapped voters at each polling place. Non-handicapped voters can also use the machines, or they may use the traditional paper ballots commonly used in Park County elections.
For further information regarding elections, voting machines, or the demonstrations, please contact the Park County Clerk at 719-836-4222, or email pcclerk@parkco.us.
