NO INJURIES IN FAIRPLAY HOUSE FIRE

North-West Fire Protection District

North-West Fire was called to a structure fire at 801 Crawford Street in Fairplay shortly after 1:00 am on Monday the 25th. Crews on the initial engine arrived to find fire burning both inside and outside the home in the southeast corner near the chimney. All of the occupants of the home were safely outside as the firefighting started.

A total of two engines, 1 water tender, the ladder truck, and 9 firefighters arrived to attack the fire. Crews began inside and were quickly able to knock the fire down before doing the same outside. Once the initial fire was extinguished crews had to tear apart a tongue and groove ceiling in order to gain access to the roof area and put out any fire extension found there. It took nearly three hours to be sure the fire had not spread throughout the house.

Damage to the home was limited to the room with the fireplace, as well as the chimney and roof. Estimates of cost to repair are not available at this time. The fire is still under investigation, but preliminary investigation indicates it is not suspicious. No injuries were reported and the occupants were allowed to remain in the home once the firefighting was completed.

Responding agencies were North-West Fire Protection District, South Park Ambulance District, and Fairplay Police Department.
